Since June 2022, Yoti has completed over 1.6 million right to work (RTW) checks and over 930,000 DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks. Of those checks:

  • 34% of UK adults choose to use Yoti, Post Office EasyID or Lloyds Bank Smart ID to prove their identity for DBS checks.
  • 23% of UK adults choose to use Yoti, Post Office EasyID or Lloyds Bank Smart ID to complete their RTW checks.

Yoti, Post Office EasyID and Lloyds Bank Smart ID are all certified by the UK Digital Identity & Attributes Trust Framework (UK DIATF) as proof of identity for Right to Work and DBS checks. The three Digital ID apps make up Digital ID Connect – the UK’s leading network of Digital IDs with over 5 million installs in the UK.

Yoti offers two ways to perform RTW and DBS checks; reusable digital ID and one time ID verification. One time ID verification is where a candidate scans their passport and takes a selfie, which are then verified by Yoti.

What we’d like to see next – further acceptance for proof of age

This legislative change has made a huge difference to the background screening industry alone. As such, we’re keen to see how the measures introduced in the new Digital Identity and Smart Data Bill could expand these benefits into other sectors.

One area that we’d really like to see as part of these changes is the acceptance of Digital ID as proof of age for buying alcohol and entering licensed premises. Currently, people can use Digital IDs to prove their identity when starting new jobs, renting flats, proving their age at the cinema and buying all age-restricted products except for alcohol.

As a result, people are still required to carry valuable physical ID documents, like passports and driving licences, when on nights out or buying alcohol. With a change in legislation, there is a much lower risk of documents being lost or stolen which can, in turn, help decrease the risk of fraud and identity theft.

We believe that with regulatory change, both businesses and consumers can benefit from an existing solution that is more secure, reduces fraud and increases efficiency.
